caul, caulcole, caulicole, cauliculus (pl. cauliculae), caulis (pl. caules). Caules are principal stalks rising behind the upper row of acanthus-leaves in a Corinthian capital. From these caules spring lesser branches (cauli-coles or cauliculae) supporting the volutes or helices.
