Steindl, Imre (1839–1902). Austro-Hungarian architect. His masterpiece is the Gothic Revival Parliament Building in Budapest (1883–1902), situated by the Danube, clearly influenced by Charles Barry's Palace of Westminster, London, although the style is not English Perpendicular but a symmetrically composed essay in Continental Gothic, with a great and somewhat incongruous dome probably derived from George Gilbert and John Oldrid Scott's entry to the Reichstag (German Parliament-Building) competition, Berlin (1872).
