Ponzio, Flaminio (
c.1560–1613). From Lombardy, he settled in Rome in the mid-1580s, where he designed a number of late-
Mannerist buildings. The Pauline Chapel at Santa Maria Maggiore (1605–11) is much enriched with coloured marbles, gilded
stucco, and inlaid work. He reconstructed part of the Palazzo Borghese, where the long elevation is probably his (1605–13), and designed the noble Acqua Paola fountain on the Janiculum (1608–11). Further reconstruction was planned by him at San Sebastiano fuori le Mura, including the elegant west front (1609–13), and at
Raphael and
Peruzzi's Sant'Eligio degli Orefici (1602).
