Hasegawa, Itsuko

Hasegawa, Itsuko (1941– ). Japanese architect. One of the first Japanese women to establish a major architectural reputation, her work includes the Shonandai Cultural Centre, Fijisawa, Kanagawa (1987–90—a reduced model of the Universe), the Oshimamachi Picture-Book Museum, Imizu, Toyama (1992–4), the Sumida Culture Factory, Sumida, Tokyo (1991–4), and the Museum of Fruit, Yamanashi-shi, Yamanashi (1993–5—a highly sophisticated development of the conservatory, with added symbolic aspects in the evocative forms used).
