Doyle, John Francis (1840–1913). Influential Liverpool architect, his churches were in a scholarly Gothic Revival, but his commercial buildings, notably the Royal Insurance Offices, Dale Street, Liverpool (1897–1903), were assured Baroque compositions. His White Star Building, Pier Head (with Norman Shaw), of 1894–6, resembled Shaw's New Scotland Yard in London. He also designed a number of houses for the prosperous classes of the area, but most have been demolished or unsympathetically altered.
