Antonine column

Antonine column. Monumental Tuscan-Doric column in Rome supposedly commemorating Emperor Antoninus Pius (AD 138–61). Set on a large pedestal, its shaft is embellished with sculptured reliefs arranged in a spiral band, and contains a circular staircase similar to the Trajanic column (AD 112–13). It actually commemorates Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (AD 161–80), hence the confusion.
