Sidelights

Daniel E. Harmon told Something about the Author: "At about age thirteen, I determined to become a professional writer. School career counselors directed me to obtain a journalism degree, which led to ten agonizing years as a newspaper journalist after college. Although I hated the work, journalism matured my writing and taught me much about the publishing industry.

"Eventually, the Lord gave me more agreeable writing and editing work to do and, in 1994, opened the door to authoring books. After compiling several joke books and performing abridgement projects for Barbour Publishing, I was engaged by Chelsea House in 1997 to begin authoring educational books for different grade levels. The subjects were gloriously diverse, from history to foreign culture. Today I have the privilege of researching and writing books for several juvenile publishers.

"Meanwhile, as time permits, I relish crafting historical mystery short stories, the kind of writing I REALLY wanted to do from the very beginning, forty years ago. I continue to enjoy my long-term work on the editorial staff of Sandlapper: The Magazine of South Carolina. Since 1983, I've also edited The Lawyer's PC, a national technology newsletter now published by Thomson/West.
