Ushuaia

Ushuaia , city (1991 pop. 29,452), Tierra del Fuego Territory, S Argentina, a port on the Beagle Canal, on Ushuaia Bay. Settled in the 1870s by English missionaries, it was taken over by Argentine naval forces in 1884. Lumber, livestock, and fishing are important to the local economy.
