Theodoros Stamos
The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition
Theodoros Stamos , 1920-, American painter, b. New York City. Allied with the New York school of the 1960s (see modern art ), Stamos draws much of his inspiration from Asian mysticism. He often creates a grainy, atmospheric surface with muted colors and calligraphic configurations in works that express the mysterious and insubstantial. His work is represented in New York City at the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
