Finn Ronne

Finn Ronne 1899-1980, Norwegian-American Antarctic explorer. Ronne graduated from college in Norway in 1922 and immigrated to the United States. His first of nine Antarctic expeditions was with Admiral Richard Byrd in 1933. In 1947, Ronne went with his wife, a scientist, on what became the first Antarctic research expedition to include women. The Ronne Ice Shelf in the Weddell Sea bears his name. He wrote Antarctic Conquest (1949) and Antarctica, My Destiny (1979).
