Quivira , land sought and reached by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado in 1541 and explored by later Spanish expeditions (1593 and 1601). The records do not make it entirely clear exactly where Quivira was located. It is generally identified with villages of the Wichitas, probably around Great Bend, Kans.; however, other sites have been suggested, including one in N Texas.
