Mustafa II

Mustafa II 1664-1703, Ottoman sultan (1695-1703), nephew and successor of Ahmed II. The grand vizier (chief executive officer) of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey), Husayn Köprülü , exercised the actual rule. The Turkish defeat (1697) at Senta by Prince Eugene of Savoy led to negotiations in 1699 (see Karlowitz, Treaty of ) that marked the end of the Turkish military threat to Europe. Mustafa II was succeeded by his brother, Ahmed III.
