Sir James Augustus Henry Murray

Sir James Augustus Henry Murray 1837-1915, English lexicographer. In 1879 he assumed the editorship of the New English Dictionary (the Oxford English Dictionary ), which was his life's work (see dictionary ). Murray was a guiding force in this compilation, a triumph of modern scholarship, and its general plan and much of the work on details are to be credited to him.
