St. George Jackson Mivart , 1827-1900, English anatomist and biologist. He contributed important anatomical studies of the insectivores and carnivores. He was converted to Roman Catholicism in 1844, and his attempts to reconcile religion with his evolutionary views led to his excommunication in 1900.
