Kolwezi

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition

Kolwezi , city (1984 pop. 416,122), Katanga province, SE Congo (Kinshasa). It is a center for copper and cobalt mining. There are copper-ore concentration plants, a zinc refinery, and a brewery. Rebels attacked the city in 1978, flooding the mines.
