IJssel
IJssel , river, 72 mi (116 km) long, branching from the Neder Rijn (Lower Rhine) River near Arnhem, E Netherlands, and flowing N into the IJsselmeer, near Kampen. The IJssel is connected to the Rhine and carries about one tenth of the Rhine's water. The river, which is canalized in places, passes through an industrial and truck-farming region. Deventer , Zutphen , and Zwolle are the chief cities.
