José Greco

José Greco , 1918–2001, Spanish-American dancer and choreographer, b. Italy. Greco emigrated to the United States as a child. He first appeared as a professional dancer in New York in Carmen in 1937, dancing thereafter in nightclubs and resorts, in films, and in touring ballet companies. In 1947 he organized his own company, Ballets y Bailes de España. Greco was noted for his fiery yet elegant flamenco dancing. He retired in 1974 but from 1988 to 1995 performed a number of times with his children.
