Firuzabad

Firuzabad , town (1991 pop. 43,424), Fars prov., S Iran, near Shiraz. The town has a noteworthy palace built (3d cent.) by Ardashir I; it is a large rectangular building, 180 ft (55 m) wide and 300 ft (91 m) long. Firuzabad is said to be the birthplace of Firuzabadi (1329-1414), compiler of a great Arabic dictionary.
