Fantin-Latour, Ignace Henri Jean Théodore
Ignace Henri Jean Théodore Fantin-Latour (ēgnäs´ äNrē´ zhäN´ tēōdôr´ fäNtăN´-lätōōr´), 1836–1904, French painter and lithographer. He is best known for his portrait groups of famous contemporaries. Notable examples are The Studio at Batignolles, Hommage à Delacroix, and Around the Piano (all: Louvre). His famous portrait of Manet is in the Chicago Art Institute. Influenced by Courbet, he depicted his friends with an almost photographic technique. He is also admired for still-life paintings of flowers.
