Edhessa or Vodena , city (1991 pop. 17,659), capital of Pella prefecture, N Greece, in Macedonia. It is a rail and road junction and an agricultural trading center. Textiles are manufactured. Known as Aegae in antiquity, it was the earliest seat of the Macedonian kings. After Philip II moved (4th cent. BC) the Macedonian capital to Pella, it continued to be the royal burial place.
