Hosea Ballou, 2d
Hosea Ballou, 2d 1796-1861, American Universalist clergyman, b. Guilford, Vt.; grandnephew of Hosea Ballou (1771-1852). He was one of the founders and the first president (1853-61) of Tufts College. His Ancient History of Universalism (1829) is the earliest American monograph dealing with the history of the doctrine.
