Aristophanes of Byzantium
The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition
Aristophanes of Byzantium , c.257-180 BC, Greek scholar. He was librarian at Alexandria, edited various texts, and reputedly invented the Greek diacritical marks. Aristarchus of Samothrace was his pupil.
