Kulenkampff, Georg

Kulenkampff, Georg, eminent German violinist and pedagogue; b. Bremen, Jan. 23, 1898; d. Schaffhausen, Oct. 4, 1948. He studied violin with Willy Hess in Berlin. In 1916 he became concertmaster of the Bremen Phil. From 1923 to 1926 he taught at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik; then toured throughout Europe as a soloist; from 1943 he taught at the Lucerne Cons. He was regarded as one of the most brilliant German violinists of his generation; his book Geigerische Betrachtungen, partly didactic, partly autobiographical in content, was ed. by G. Meyer-Stichtung (Regensburg, 1952).
