Frantz, Justus
Frantz, Justus, German pianist, conductor, and teacher; b. Hohensalza, May 18, 1944. He studied piano with Eliza Hansen at the Hamburg Hochschule fur Musik, and later took private courses with Kempff. After winning a prize in the Munich Competition in 1967, he began appearing with leading European orchs. He made his U.S. debut with the N.Y. Phil, in 1975; subsequently appeared with many other American orchs. He also toured with Christoph Eschenbach in duo-piano concerts. In 1986 he founded the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, with which he was associated until 1994. He was a prof, at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik from 1986. In 1990 he launched a career as a conductor.
