sulphuric acid (H2SO4) Colourless, odourless liquid, one of the strongest acids known. It is produced by the oxidation of sulphur dioxide (SO2). Sulphuric acid is a major industrial chemical, used in the manufacture of many acids, fertilizers, detergents, drugs and a wide range of chemicals. Properties: r.d. 1.84; m.p. 10.3°C (50.5°F); b.p. 330°C (626°F).
