Yun-yen Tʾan-sheng

Yun-yen Tʾan-sheng (Jap., Ungan Donjō; c.780–841). Chʾan/Zen master, dharma-successor (hassu) of Yueh-shan Wei-yen, and master of Tung-shan Liang-chieh, co-founder of Tsʾao-tung. Several formative exchanges (mondō) between the two have been recorded—for an example see TUNG-SHAN.
