Publicity director, communications officer, editor, and author. Montgomery is remembered for her work at the Washington National Cathedral in the nation's capital. She served as the communications director of the cathedral from 1974 to 1976, but was involved in many peripheral activities as well. Montgomery produced television programs and slide shows about the cathedral, edited the magazine Cathedral Age, and later wrote and edited a series of cathedral guidebooks. Montgomery also contributed her talents to the larger community, as a public relations volunteer for the hospice called Washington Home and as a board member of Hospice Care of DC. She was active in her local Episcopal church and a vice president of the Associated Church Press, which honored her with several merit awards over the years. She also received the Paul M. Hinkhouse-Victor DeRose Award of the Religious Public Relations Society on two occasions in the 1970s. Montgomery's books include The Ordination of Women—Pro and Con (1975), Sculpture and Carving at Washington Cathedral (1976), Jewels of Light: The Stained Glass and Mosaics of Washington Cathedral (1984), and a shorter work, "Stitches for God: The Story of Washington Cathedral Needlepoint" (1974). She also edited the recipe collection The Herb Cottage Cook Book (1982).
