Akuśu-kū (Jap., ‘wrong understanding’ + ‘emptiness’). A wrong understanding, in Zen Buddhism, of the true nature of ku (Skt., śūnyatā). In this error, ku is understood as equalling ‘nothing’, the negation of existence. But Ku/śūnyatā is the repository and source of all appearance, so that appearance is neither more nor less than it.
