"Fitzwilly" (1967) 1 of 10

"FITZWILLY" (1967) 103 minutes (widescreen) -- Starring Dick van Dyke, Barbara Feldon, Edith Evans, Harry Townes, John Fiedler, Norman Fell, and John McGiver. Music by John Williams. Produced by Walter Mirisch. Directed by Delbert Mann. PLOT: Dick Van Dyke is butler Charles Fitzwilliam, aka Fitzwilly. He's employed by formerly wealthy patron Victoria "Miss Vickie" Woodworth (Edith Evans). Unbeknownst to her, Miss Vickie has lost her fortune. To hide this situation and to allow her to maintain her high level of charity work, Miss Vickie's kindhearted staff -- led by Fitzwilly -- becomes a gang of thieves. When compiling a dictionary for people who can't spell, Miss Vickie hires Juliet Nowell (Barbara Feldon) as her assistant. The astute Juliet quickly senses that Fitzwilly is up to something ..... but will she blow the whistle on him and the staff? INFO: Despite a strong cast and heartwarming storyline, "Fitzwilly" never became a holiday staple, unlike the same Christmas movies that are played repeatedly each holiday season. For that reason, most people will find this 1967 film a refreshing addition to holiday movie viewing. And despite the Christmas-based plot,"Fitzwilly" is enjoyable year-round. Barbara Feldon played Agent 99 on TV's "Get Smart" during the 1960s. Look for Sam Waterston in his first (very minor) movie role.
