The Greek Scythian kingdom

This is the story the Greek Scythian kingdom.The Greeks colonised Crimea in 7th century BC.The Greek colonists developed trade activity with the local populations and learned the Scythes to grain the land.The Scythes were culturaly affected by the Greeks.The Greek cities of Crimea were under the rule of the Athenians.During the Peloponesian war the Athenians were weakened and one man called Spartocus who controled the city of Panticapeum in 438 wiped out the Athenian garrisons and became the ruler of the Greek cities of Crimea.After Spartocus his heirs expanded the kingdom and conquered the nearby Scythian tribes.The Spartocid dynasty was established and ruled for 300 years.The kingdom reached its glory with king Perisades (348-310 BC). Panticapeum was the kingdom's capital, while other important cities were Chersonissos, Olbia, Maiotis and Phanagoria.The kingdom faced civil wars (Eumylos against Satyros) and foreign enemies(Scythes and Sarmatians).Therefore the kingdom managed to survive. Mithridates VI the king of Pontus restored the kingdom (110 BC).Afters Mithridates death his son Pharnaces ruled the kingdom until Asander the last Spartocid overthrown him in 47 BC. Asander ruled until 17 BC and then his wife queen Dynamis (17-7BC) ruled, when she was forced to acknowledged the Roman power. Her domain became a client kingdom of Rome.The Greek Cimmerian Bosphorian kingdom survived until the 3rd century AD, when Huns and other barbarians destroyed the Greek cities.The Greek populations although managed to survive in the south and the remaining cities became a Byzantine province until 13th century AD.This great past is reflected in the Greek ruins, Which have been found in Crimea.The Greek populations existed in the Area until the 20th century.
