Kiefer Sutherland arrested for DUI

Hello its Wednesday the 26 of September 2007. I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update. "24" star Kiefer Sutherland is facing charges for driving under the influence. Los Angeles police say he was arrested in Hollywood early yesterday morning and released shortly after on 25,000 dollars bail. Sutherland was pulled over for making an illegal U turn and then failed a sobriety test. The actor was also charged for a DUI in 2004. If convicted of this latest crime, he would face a mandatory minimum sentence of 4 days in jail. A court date is set for October 16. Sir Elton John was joined by his celebrity friends last night to support a good cause. The singer organized the sixth annual gala in New York to raise money for his charity, The Elton John AIDS Foundation. Ozzy and Sharon Ozbourne were there as well as Susan Lucci and husband Helmut Huber. Singer k.d. lang and news anchor Anderson Copper also arrived to support the cause. The foundation focuses on AIDS prevention and education. Jessica Biel may soon get to show off her super powers. The actress is apparently in talks to play the super hero Wonder Woman in an upcoming film "Justice League of America." The movie, set to come out in 2009, is based on a comic series that includes heroes like Batman, Superman and The Flash. No other members of the cast have been decided yet. Hotel heiress Paris Hilton says she wants to use her star power to spread awareness. Hilton is apparently planning a visit to Rwanda this fall. She tells E! Online she hopes her trip will bring public attention on the need of the African country. Hilton added she wants to show what others can do to help with the poverty and problems facing children in the country. An all-star cast gathered on the red carpet last night for the premiere of a new love story. "Feast of Love" features actors Morgan Freeman, Greg Kinnear and Radha Mitchell. Other cast members were at the event like Selma Blair and Toby Hemingway. The film is based on a novel by Charles Baxter and looks at love and romance in a tight knit community in Oregon. It hits most theaters Friday. That's all for now. Be sure to check out a new special series on upi.com called "A Crusade to Save Abandoned Babies."
