Rama's Paintings

Rama is an Asian Elephant, born at the Oregon Zoo on April 1, 1983. His mother was Rosy, the first elephant ever to live at the zoo. She died in 1993. He inherited his friendly and endearing personality from her. His father, Packy, the most famous elephant at the zoo, still lives with him. Rama also lives with his half-sister Shine, his cousin Rose-Tu, Rose-Tu's son Samudra, Samudra's father Tusko, and another female called Chendra. So far, Rama does not have any of his own children, but he may in the future. If you want to know more about Rama, leave a comment. List of pictures: 1. Act until Actualized 2. Zoo's Life Highly intelligent, Rama first learned to paint with a medical test. Routinely, elephants take some sort of solution into their trunks, hold it there for a few minutes, then spray it out, so it's then tested for disease. Rama started doing the same thing with paint (the same stuff preschoolers use), and that's the spray technique. He also paints simply by holding a brush in his trunk. Often, he does both techniques. Sometimes, he may decide he just doesn't want to paint today, and keepers respect that. You can buy Rama's paintings at www.oregonzoo.org/Rama/ . All the money goes to conservation programs, including Asian elephants.
