Canadian supporters of U.S. Iraq war resisters rally to stop deportations by Minister Jason Kenney

Canadian supporters of U.S. Iraq war resisters rally to stop deportations by Conservative Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, at an citizenship event in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, on Friday, February 27, 2009. Kenney has accelerated the arrest and deportation of Iraq war resisters since taking helm of the Immigration Ministry in late 2008. Once deported, war resisters face arrest, court martial, prison sentences of up to 5 years, and a felony conviction that will last them their entire lives -- all for refusing to participate in a war Canada and much of the rest of the world opposed. Jason Kenney is Prime Minister Stephen Harper's right-hand man, and they are both leading members of Reform-Alliance origins of the Conservative Party that advocated in 2003 that Canada send combat troops to Iraq as part of Bush's illegal invasion and occupation. Thousands have died and 4 million Iraqis have been displaced by the illegal and immoral war in Iraq. Even though Harper admitted in the 2008 Election that the Iraq war was "absolutely an error," his government continues to punish American soldiers for doing the right thing.
