NTDTV:2009 Chinese New Year's Greetings from Joe Connelly

Calgary Ward 6 Alderman Joe Connelly wishes Chinese a Happy New Year. ABOUT NTDTV New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) is an independent, nonprofit television broadcaster established in 2001. Headquartered in New York City, NTDTV currently has reporters and correspondents in over 70 cities worldwide. NTDTV is composed of a network of staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are knowledgeable about both Asian and Western societies. The station is committed to bringing viewers programs of the highest quality—programs that not only entertain, but also meaningfully impact people's lives and the world around us. Beyond its television programming, NTDTV has distinguished itself for its leading role in the promotion of China's traditional arts and culture. Every year the station organizes and sponsors a range of performances, competitions, and outreach programs. NTDTV is a publicly supported 501C(3) organization. Its funding comes from individual donations, corporate sponsorships, program service fees, and program sales. Television Broadcasting Programming NTDTV provides a wide range of programs in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. The station's flagship program is news, which provides timely reporting nine times a day on important events from around the world. Keeping the whole family in mind, NTDTV's 24/7 programming ranges from primetime drama series, cultural shows, educational programs, and children's shows, to sports and entertainment, finance and business programs, lively talk shows, and many original programs on other topics of interest to Chinese people everywhere. A significant portion of these programs focuses on traditional Chinese culture and current affairs in Asia. Audience The Chinese population is the largest ethnic group and the fastest growing diaspora in the world, with over 3 million Chinese in the United States and another million in Canada. In Australia and Europe, the Chinese population is increasing rapidly, with new immigrants arriving daily. Most overseas Chinese continue to use Mandarin or another dialect as their language of choice at home, regardless of how long they have lived in their adopted country. As such, NTDTV primarily targets the more than 1.5 billion Chinese-speakers around the globe. As the rest of the world's interest in China and other Asian countries grows, NTDTV has launched and is constantly expanding its multilingual offerings on TV and on the Internet, catering to viewers of an ever-widening array of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Coverage Area NTDTV now broadcasts to over 200 million potential viewers worldwide. In mainland China, there are an estimated 40 million privately owned satellite dishes capable of receiving overseas satellite TV programs; in many cases a single satellite dish serves several families. NTDTV's broadcasts reach as many as 100 million satellite viewers in Europe, 60,000 in Australia, and 2 million in North America. NTDTV is free-to-air and therefore available to all who use Ku-band reception. NTDTV's programs can also be accessed via cable and the Internet. NTDTV's cable programming is available in 16 metropolitan areas in North America, including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. NTDTV's website receives an average of 700,000 daily hits, with some 3,000 hours of programs being downloaded every day. These numbers continue to grow steadily.
