Audiovisual presented by GUNI at the 2009 UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education

The Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI) presented this audiovisual on the occasion of the World Conference on Higher Education (Paris, 5-8 July 2009), within the framework of a special GUNI session. With this audiovisual, GUNI aims to debate on higher educations visions and actions to strengthen social transformations role. Higher education faces the challenge of creating and distributing socially relevant knowledge and of doing it with anticipation so as to play a proactive and committed role in the transformation and positive change of societies. To face these challenges, the mission of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI) is to contribute to the strengthening of higher educations role in society through the reform and innovation of higher education policies across the world under a vision of public service, relevance and social responsibility. Therefore, GUNI wishes to pose a debate on the role of higher education as agents of social transformation and how its visions and actions could be re-oriented towards the creation and distribution of socially relevant knowledge and a complex understanding of reality. GUNI was created by UNESCO, the United Nations University (UNU) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) after the first World Conference on Higher Education, with the mission to contribute to the strengthening of higher educations role in society through the reform and innovation of higher education policies across the world under a vision of public service, relevance and social responsibility.
