Sadly, the artificial intelligence just sometimes doesn't know what to do. I was expecting reinforcements in the battle and they were delayed, so I was at a heavy disadvantage, but since they didn't MOVE, I pretty much killed 55% of their force just with my culverins and was later victorious with just 3 calvary units and 2 heavy infantry units (150 soldiers).
