Byelorussia Station (Белорусский вокзал)

http://russart.com/?mid=307 USSR, Mosfilm, 1970. Classics, Drama. The characters of this film parted at the Belorussky train station in Moscow in summer of 1945. Quarter of a century later, they meet again at the funeral of one of their comrade-in-arms. The past revives in their souls. Time surrenders before their memories. They preserved their combat friendship, ability to sacrifice themselves, invincible love to life. They all went their separate ways after the war, so all those years later, instead of a sapper, a radio operator, an explosives expert, and a scout, there meet a factory manager, a chief accountant, a journalist and a repairman. It would probably have come to nothing more than a conventional gathering, had chance not stepped in. The assistant of Prikhodko, the repairman, is seriously injured while adjusting the gas fittings. The old friends drop their initial reserve and begin to become close again. At the house of the former female medic Raja (a name similar to the Russian word for paradise), they start reminiscing about Byelorussia Station, where they were welcomed home from the war by their families. Back then they had values and ideals which they were going to try not to betray, even in normal life... This tragicomic reflection of a war-time past is set in the course of a single day. The film was made by contemporaries of the sons of the heroes that it is about. It is remarkable for extremely well written characters and some truly excellent performances. Cast: Aleksey Glazyrin, Evgeny Leonov, Anatoly Papanov, Vsevolod Safonov, Nina Urgant, Raisa Kurkina, Lyubov Sokolova, Margarita Terekhova. Director Andrey Smirnov.
