Social Construction on Vancouver's Main Street

Dr. Earon Kavanagh introduces a vignette from his documentary film project "The Main Street Film". The vignette briefly explores the recent gentrification activity on Vancouver's Main Street, and how resident observers have different constructions, or perspectives of what is going on around them; albeit it may be something they may have little control over. The key theme here is that gentrification processes are part of the social construction of the new Main Street. But simultaneously, persons' voiced perspectives are also part of the social construction processes. Despite current changes Main St. continues to be many things to many people. This vignette sets the stage for a future panel discussion which will be filmed.
