Kings of Cambodia

The Kings of Cambodia from 1859 to today. These have been: King Norodom I, King Sisowath, King Sisowath Monivong, King Norodom Sihanouk, King Norodom Suramarit, King Norodom Sihanouk again and King Norodom Sihamoni of today. The monarchy was interrupted by the 1970 coup led by pro-US General Lon Nol which forced Sihanouk into the arms of the Khmer Rouge. The alliance of convenience did not last long after Pol Pot came to power he abolished the monarchy. Following the Vietnamese invasion and overthrow of Pol Pot the UN held elections which brought Sihanouk back to the throne. However, the former communist prime minister installed by the Vietnamese communists, Hun Sen, has remained in power ever since.
