San Juan del Sur Beach Nicaragua manfut

San Juan del Sur San Juan del Sur upholds the flavour and character that only the sea is able to offer; time flows discreetly and before we know it our day has passed as the sun sets in the distance, we realize that this is a spectacle that should not be missed. Seen from the beach of Marseilles or from any of the restaurants along the coast, it is definite that the sun has an intimate connection with San Juan del Sur. Its rays penetrate the ocean, performing a serene and melodious duet, then water and fire melt together detonating our senses and intrinsic desires, leading up to a unique climax of being under a universe of stars where anything can happen. In 1523, San Jorge, Rivas was the setting for the first encounter between Nicaraguans and Spaniards, as Gil Gonzalez de Ávila met with Chief Nicaragua who the country was named after. Rivas was used both as a migratory bridge for the Indigenous tribes and as a transportation corridor during Colonial times. Indigenous cemeteries have been found in the area of San Juan del Sur and Ostional, unfortunately no authority gave any importance to the matter and the tombs have subsequently been plundered indiscriminately and the articles are now part of private collections. These historical treasures have not only been robbed from their rightful resting place, but we have lost the right to the knowledge of our cultural legacy - our link to the past. Once known as Valley of Nicaragua, in 1720 one of its municipalities reached the scale of a city, thus changing its name to Villa of the Pure and Clean Conception of Rivas, to honour General Francisco Hernández de Rivas, then President of Audience and Captain General of Guatemala. The Central American Countries were under the authority of General Hernández de Rivas and once independence was achieved from Spain in September 1821 the countries became the Confederation of Central American Republics. Nicaragua was part of the Confederation until 1839 when it became an independent republic. In 1854 a civil war exploded between the conservatives of Granada and the democratic population of León, in which the Leoneses hired the services of William Walker, who arrived in 1855, to counteract the conservatives. Located in the Department of Rivas, San Juan del Sur was discovered in 1522 by the Spaniard Andrés Niño during his exploratory trip searching for a strait between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The town was named San Juan del Sur to differentiate it from San Juan del Norte in the Atlantic Ocean. During the war against Walker, many military expeditions disembarked in San Juan del Sur and although the history of the town is bounded to that of the port, the history of the port is older than the city itself. This port town has had many changes of name through a relatively short history. In 1827, it was provisionally authorized as a maritime port by the Confederation of Central American Republics and was known as the Nicaraguan Port, in 1830 its name was changed to Puerto de la Independencia, and again in 1840 to San Juan de la Concordia, granting its definitive right to import and to export. On November 12, 1851 it was elevated to the category of Major Port, the town reach the scale of city and in 1852 the Port and city were named Ciudad Pineda, and was declared a terminal port for what was then the Traffic Route of both trade and passengers between New York and San Francisco, and vice versa. San Juan del Sur is located at 11º and 15 latitude north, 85º and 53 longitude west; its altitude is of 3.58 meters above sea level. In 1996 its population reached 13,786 inhabitants for a density 19.5 inhabitants/km2, its average temperature is 27º C and gets approximately 1660mm precipitation per year, it has a total area of 598 km2 and its districts include: Las Brisas , Carrizal, La Cuesta, Ostional, Plan Grande, Pueblo Nuevo y Tortuga. The most important rivers are: San Juan, Escameca, Escamequita, La Flor, Ostional, El Naranjo and Marsella. The city is 140 kilometres away from the capital Managua and just 43 kilometres from the border of Peñas Blancas. It is common to hear stories about the fights between the winds from the north and the South, called Papagayos or Northeast which are present from December thru February, the strong winds of the West and South whip from May to October. San Juan del Sur has over 14 pristine and beautiful beaches, true paradise where humans have not exercised their power. Some of the highlight beaches are: San Juan del Sur a horseshow bay, Maderas, Marsella, Majagual, Popoyo, Eddy, Yanki, La Flor, El Coco, Ostional, Ocotal, Playa Blanca, Playa Rosada, among others. Its main economic items are agriculture, fishing and tourism, though also in the area around San Juan are lime mines, stone quarry, loamy coal and calcareous soils which are good for ceramic production.
