Promo for The Jean Arthur Show (1966). No, I don't remember it either.

It aired Mondays at 10:00 (after Family Affair, before I've Got A Secret, and long after I had gone to sleep). Miss Arthur was a movie star of the 40's and 50's (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is probably her best known work) who came out of retirement to do this sitcom. It lasted 12 episodes and she re-retired after it was cancelled. This show had an interesting premise for 1966: Miss Arthur plays a criminal defense attorney who sees her son go to work for the District Attorney's office. A nice departure from the "kooky housewife"/"kooky heiress"/"kooky whatever" role. And Miss Arthur is quite good. So you'd think the problem must have been with the scripts- and a look at the reviews on the news archive appears to confirm that. The show not only got poor ratings but lost most of the audience from its lead-in "Family Affair". So CBS replaced this with "To Tell the Truth" in December of 66. In the fall of 1967 CBS debuted Carol Burnett in the 10:00 Monday slot. That move, along with putting Gunsmoke at 7:30 gave them a killer Monday lineup (until Rowan and Martin showed up on NBC).
