Single electrons build up interference pattern

Youngs Physics experiment results .. It was demonstrated that a two-beam interference experiment can be done in which only one electron exists at a time in the experimental apparatus and is detected one by one . Feynman et al. remarked that such an experiment would be "impossible, absolutely impossible to explain in any classical way, and has in it the heart of quantum mechanics," and they went on to say that it "has never been done in just this way, because the apparatus would have to be made on an impossibly small scale." However, such experiments can now be carried out with our field-emission electron microscope .. the experiment was selected as the first rank of the most beautiful experiments by Physics World Akira Tonomura , Advanced Research Lab , Hitachi .
