Peter Cook: "James Last's Britain" (1986)

The late Peter Cook in a surreal parody of a series of programmes made the famous German band leader James Last. ( http://gfablog.blogspot.com/2006/03/last-word-on-james-last.html ) This spot was from Peter Cook's appearance on "Saturday Live" as guest presenter. (During it's first year, "Saturday Live" was 90 mins long and had a different guest host week. By it's second year, one of the regular performers, Ben Elton, had taken over as full-time host.) It was actually quite unusual for the guest presenter on "Saturday Live" to have their own film insert as they usually performed live for a bit before presenting the next performer, and indeed Peter Cook didn't actually do much *presenting* on "Saturday Live", usually linking between guests and even bands with a sketch. This film insert is actually a rarity for "Saturday Live" as well as for Peter Cook. 80s POP CULTURE REFERENCES: * Princess Michael of Kent ( http://tinyurl.com/hh4k8 ) * Gatwick ( http://tinyurl.com/mg8qq )
