Last of the Mohicans 1/10

(1920-Silent) In the thick of the French & Indian War, the daughters of an English officer undertake a dangerous journey through the New York wilderness toward safety, stalked by a vengeful Huron scout. Directed by Maurice Tourneur & Clarence Brown, this silent version of James Fenimore Cooper's novel is considered by many to be the best, because of its realism, atmosphere, and emotional intensity. It is also truer to the novel than many. Barbara Bedford is a strong and subtle Cora; and for Alan Roscoe, who was half-Native American, playing Uncas was the fulfillment of a dream. Although "Mohicans" may be found elsewhere on the internet, I share this version because it has the excellent score by R.J. Miller, which IMO is the best. Barbara Bedford - Cora Munro Alan Roscoe - Uncas Lillian Hall - Alice Munro Wallace Beery - Magua Henry Woodward - Major Heyward James Gordon - Colonel Munro George Hackathorne - Captain Randolph Nelson McDowell - David Gamut Harry Lorraine - Hawkeye Theodore Lorch - Chingachgook Jack McDonald - Tamenund Sydney Deane - General Webb Boris Karloff - Indian (crawls into covered wagon) Chief Tahachee - Mohawk/OoChaLahTah
