Life on board the Nuclear Submarine Casabianca

To pass through the straits of Bab-el Mandeb, in Yemeni territorial waters, France's Nuclear Attack Submarine Casabianca must surface to comply with internatlonal maritime law. It's a tense passage, as this is a dangerous zone : in 2000, this is where the USS Cole was attacked by a suicide-bomber, killing 17 American sailors. Once safely through the straits, the crew returns to the routine to life below the surface. With a crew of 75, space is of the essence : meals are prepared in a 4m2 kitchen, while the crew is quartered in every available space -- even above the torpedo bays.
