String Band Vanuatu - Grand Old Duke of York

A string band version of the Grand Old Duke of York recorded on south Malakula Island in Vanuatu. This village is in the hills near the Meskelyne Islands. They had got the rhyme out of a school book and made it fit the lovely string band style. The band leader is Harry (in the hat) and one of them is playing my guitar (we visited in a yacht - Tokimata from New Zealand). Recorded 6 November 2007 when the village put on a little concert for us after we fixed three of their generators and two hand sewing machines. The band stand was built to commemorate the silver jubilee anniversary of Vanuatu's independence in 1980. I love these guys.
