Jays Dining Round the Clock

January 22, 2009: These jays (A Steller's Jay and a Scrub-Jay) waste no time eating. The platform feeder today has raw, unsalted, unshelled peanuts. They seemed to be taking turns, with only one minor scuffle about 3/4 through the video. Toward the end, they became more discriminating, selecting and rejecting several nuts before they fly away with their prize. I never tire of watching Scrub-jays (Aphelocoma californica, Order PASSERIFORMES - Family CORVIDAE) and Steller's Jays (Cyanocitta stelleri, Order PASSERIFORMES - Family CORVIDAE).
