Michael The Brave Vs Ottoman Empire (1558 - 1601)

Michael the Brave (Romanian: Mihai Viteazul )was the Prince of Wallachia (1593-1601), of Transylvania (1599-1600), and of Moldavia (1600) three ROMANIAN principalities that he united under his rule.He started a campaign against the Turks in the autumn of 1594, conquering several citadels near the Danube, including Giurgiu, Brăila, Hârşova, and Silistra .Mihai continued his attacks deep within the Ottoman Empire, taking the forts of Nicopolis, Ribnic, and Chilia and even reaching as far as Adrianople. At one point his forces were only 24 kilometers from Constantinople !!!The Battle of Călugăreni was one of the most important battles in the history of mediaeval Romania. It took place on 13 August 1595 between the Wallachian army led by Michael the Brave and the Ottoman army led by Sinan Pasha.The Wallachian army numbered about 16,000 while the Ottomans had more than 150,000 men !!!
