Favorite Artists: Claude Monet

Claude Monet, born in Paris in 1840, was a founder of French impressionism, and the most consistent at expressing his perceptions rather than following nature, especially with landscapes. In fact the term impressionism came from one of his painting titles, "Impression, Sunrise." His young wife, Camille, died of tuberculosis at the age of 32 (Monet painted her on her death bed). He was grief-stricken and turned to his painting for solace, doing some of his best work ever. Cataracts affected him (and his painting) later in life, and he died of lung cancer in 1926. He was 86 years old. For music we have "MalagueƱa in E," recorded by Northstar Musicians.
