Don't Get Around Much Anymore - Piano Jazz Solo (Ellington)

The Jazz Standard: "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" by Duke Ellington performed as a piano solo by Tom Watkins on a Yamaha CVP-409. "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" is a jazz standard with music by Duke Ellington and lyrics by Bob Russell. The tune was originally titled "Never No Lament" and was first recorded by Ellington in 1940 as a big band instrumental. Russell's lyrics and the new title were added in 1942. Two different recordings of "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", one by The Ink Spots and the other by Ellington's own band, reached #1 on the R&B charts in 1943. Both were top ten pop records, along with a version by Glen Gray. The song was covered by Paul McCartney in 1987 on his album of standards originally released in the USSR only, Снова в СССР. Rod Stewart had also covered this song on his As Time Goes By: the Great American Songbook 2 cover album of Pop Standards. June Christy recorded the song in her "Ballads For Night People" album. It is also played by BB King on his "King of the Blues" compilation (1991) It was also covered by Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis during their 2007 performance at Allen Room for Jazz at Lincoln Center, later released as Two Men with the Blues. However, this track is not on the album. Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (April 29, 1899 May 24, 1974) was an American composer, pianist, and bandleader. Recognized during his life as one of the most influential figures in jazz, if not in all American music, Ellington's reputation has increased since his death, including a special award citation from the Pulitzer Prize Board.
